Gary Murphy

Originally from Peckham London, moved to Brighton 1951/2.
At 11 or 12 tried to learn the guitar, but gave up in favour of the drums when 13 or 14.
Joined first proper group in 1965, recorded 7 singles with them between '66 – '69. In 1969 & 1971 cut 2 albums (different bands) both unreleased. Toured all over UK as well as Belgium & Germany.
Recorded several sessions for Radio 1, appeared on TV in UK, Belgium, Holland, & later Austria.
Filmed by BBC TV for a documentary series “A Year in the Life” had cameo role in a film with Virna Lisi & Peter McEnery “Better a Widow”(1968).

1972 lived & worked in Austria for next 6 years, in the beginning, session work with Austrian bands in Vienna, later as packer/warehouse distributor of school books in Graz.
Married in 1975 (Austria) have one son.
1978 returned to Brighton.
1980 moved to Hampshire working as Electronics Buyer for next 23 years.

Celebrated my 50th birthday by travelling alone to India, and staying 2 weeks in an Ashram nr. Bangalore!

In 2000 took up the drums again, playing with 2 local Rock/Blues bands –“Oak”& “Chameleon” until 2004.

Dec 2006 I joined NFHR which I enjoy a lot, producing & co-presenting a request programme for Solent Mead care home.
Apart from music, I enjoy writing song lyrics & poetry.
